PARIS (AP) — Marseille moved level on points with Monaco at the top of the French league after laboring to a 2-0 home win against Brest on Saturday. The host started well and quickly broke the deadlock from a free kick that Chancel Mbemba headed home from close range at the far post. But that goal did not help Marseille play with confidence as it struggled to create attacking moves.Ismaila Sarr scored the second goal in the 65th minute. Brest travelled to Marseille with confidence after winning its opening two games for the first time in the club’s history.Led by an inspired Jeremy Le Douaron, Brest had the best chances of the first half without breaking the host’s solid defense at Stade Velodrome.Le Douaron came close to leveling just after the interval, only for his header to be saved on the goal-line by defender Jonathan Clauss.Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wasted a chance to double his team’s lead when alone near the penalty spot he missed the target.Marseille manag...Curacao defeats Taiwan 2-0 in Little League World Series semifinal

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) — Jay-Dlynn Wiel and Nasir El-Ossais got back-to-back singles off Taiwanese ace Fan Chen-Jun and later scored, leading Curacao to a 2-0 victory over Taiwan on Saturday in the semifinals of the Little League World Series.Taiwan came into the game having outscored its opponents 25-1 in its three previous outings at the tournament, but Curacao – which lost 9-1 to Taiwan on Wednesday – kept the Taiwanese bats quiet until the Caribbean team broke through.Fan came in for the bottom of the fourth to face Curacao’s top of the lineup. Fan hadn’t allowed a hit all tournament, but Jay-Dlynn hit a hard grounder into left field and Nasir followed with a single to right. After a steal from Jay-Dlynn, Curacao had runners at first and third when Joshua Acosta Fernandez laid down a bunt. The bunt had Fan, third baseman Liu You-An and catcher Chen Kai-Sheng confused on who was covering home and who was taking the ball. Liu took the ball and overthrew Chen, allowing Jay-Dly...US women DQ’d from 4×400 relay at worlds due to faulty baton exchange

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — The American women’s 4×400 relay team was disqualified from the preliminary round at the world championships Saturday after their third and fourth runners in the four-lap race bungled the baton exchange.Quanera Hayes missed on several attempts to hand the stick to anchor runner Alexis Holmes. When they finally did make the exchange, they were out of the legal passing zone.It was the latest chapter in a long stretch of problems for Team USA in the relays, though a mishap in the longer relay is relatively rare because none of the runners are going as fast, and there isn’t as much traffic. With runners such as Allyson Felix, Sydney McLaughlin and Dalilah Muhammad leading the way in recent years, this has been as close to a sure thing as there is for the United States, which has won this race at seven of the last eight worlds. This year, they won’t even make the final. The U.S. men and women were due to race in the 4×100 relay later in t...West Ham ends Brighton’s perfect record in EPL

BRIGHTON, England (AP) — West Ham put on a counterattacking masterclass to end Brighton’s perfect start to the English Premier League by beating the host 3-1 on Saturday.Brighton had a majority of the possession but West Ham made the most of its counters as the visitor raced to 3-0 thanks to goals from James Ward-Prowse, Jarred Bowen and Michail Antonio.Pascal Gross pulled one back in the 81st minute and had good chances for a second but West Ham held on for a second straight 3-1 victory after beating Chelsea at home last weekend. It turned the tables on a Brighton side that looked rampant in scoring four times in each of its first two games.Ward-Prowse had two assists in that Chelsea game and added his first West Ham goal — and 50th in the league overall — from close range in the 19th against Brighton. ___AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccerSourceCar severely wrecked after falling over I-95 ramp in NW Miami-Dade; driver, 2 others injured
