California's transportation infrastructure no longer considered 'high-risk'

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:31:20 GMT

California's transportation infrastructure is no longer considered "high-risk," 16 years after it was added to an inauspicious list by the California State Auditor.California's transportation infrastructure was considered "deteriorating" when it was added to the Auditor's list in May 2007. Among the issues plaguing the state was a lack of stable, long-term funding and desperately needed upgrades to aging roads, bridges, and much-needed traffic-reducing measures. Intercity rail and "active transportation" infrastructure for walking and biking were also considered to be subpar.Following its inclusion on the list, Caltrans and the California Transportation Commission went to work with a major boon coming from the passage of Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.The landmark legislation "ushered in a new era of infrastructure investment to rebuilding California," said California Transportation Secretary Toks Omishakin. Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:31:20 GMT

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Giants placed outfielder Michael Conforto on the injured list with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, the team announced.Recently-optioned outfielder Heliot Ramos was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento as the corresponding roster move. When asked about a potential timeline for Conforto’s return, manager Gabe Kapler said he was “optimistic” that Conforto will return this season, adding they expect he’ll miss several weeks to recover from a Grade 2 strain. Conforto, 30, suffered the injury playing in the outfield during Wednesday’s game against the Phillies in Philadelphia. That left hamstring troubled Conforto in June as he’s put together a mediocre first season with the Giants, batting .251/.343/.405 with 12 doubles and 15 home runs.Kapler said Ramos, 23, was disappointed when optioned last week to make room for top pitching prospect Kyle Harrison, adding he had no major advice to hand down for things to work on....

49ers trade Trey Lance to Dallas Cowboys for fourth-round pick

SANTA CLARA — Trey Lance is off the 49ers, and onto the rival Dallas Cowboys.Lance, drafted No. 3 overall in 2021 after a massive trade up to that perch, got dealt for a fourth-round draft pick, a team source confirmed less than three hours before kickoff of the 49ers’ preseason finale.Lance’s exit comes just two days after coach Kyle Shanahan informed him that Sam Darnold would be the top backup this season to Brock Purdy. The 49ers’ trading partner comes as a bit of a surprise, on multiple levels. One, it’s the Cowboys, and the 49ers can only hope this trade does not backfire the way an August 1992 deal did, in which Charles Haley was sent to Dallas (for 1993 second- and 1994 third-round picks) to help buoy the Cowboys’ Super Bowl runs. (Disclaimer: Whereas Lance was beloved by coaches other than from a depth-point standpoint, Haley’s volatility toward then-coach George Seifert necessitated his exit.)Second, Dallas has invested heavily in Da...
