The fiery liquid illuminates the smoke-filled sky in Grindavik, a small fishing town just 50 kilometers (30 miles) from the capital, Reykjavik.The eruption began Monday night, but it was no surprise: The area has been active for two years, with thousands of small earthquakes heralding the near-certain awakening of the volcano. Civil defense personnel are on high alert, blocking access to the road leading to the mountain, and flying in a helicopter over the lava floes to monitor volcanic activity. New area code coming to Colorado in 2026 DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado is no longer known as the 303 state. In 2026, a new area code is coming for the Centennial State. The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies Public Utility Commission announced on Monday that starting in the first quarter of 2026 those living in northern and western Colorado could be assigned the new 748 area code. When did 303 arrive in Colorado? The new area code will be for customers in the 970-area code overlay region who request a new service, line or move their service.All current customers will keep their existing phone numbers and area codes.The PUC said the current 970 area code is projected to run out of phone numbers by the first quarter of 2026. That is when the 748 area code will be distributed.According to PUC, the 748 area code should last approximately 38 years.This will be Colorado's sixth area code. Jared Polis ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on all public buildings to honor Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who died Dec. 1 at the age of 93.O'Connor was the first woman to serve on the Supreme Court. She was appointed to the court in 1981 and served until she retired in 2006. You'll pay this much for tolls on E-470 next year DENVER (KDVR) -- Next year, you will still have to pay the ExpressToll on E-470, but it won't cost you much.E-470 circles the east Denver metro area and connects the I-25 and C-470 interchange in the south to the I-25 and the Northwest Parkway interchange in the north.It uses ExpressToll, which is an all-electronic toll collection system. Why bridges, overpasses are more dangerous in the winter E-470 has tolls because it relies on the profit for maintenance. It doesn't receive state or federal funding, so the tolls go towards paying debt service, operations and roadway improvement projects.  While it's highly unlikely that these tolls will get removed, they're at least not increasing for the upcoming year.Toll rates are reviewed and set annually by E-470’s Board of Directors, except this year, the eight jurisdictions voted to freeze the toll rate.Currently, E-470 has $1.3 billion in outstanding bond debt, but the board decided to freeze the cost of tolls to keep the road...
